In Italy, this city is called Napoli. This photo report holds a special place in my heart because it was captured back in 2015. At the time, I was passionate about photography, consumed by a desire to travel, and eager to explore Italy and many other countries and cities. I didn’t have an iPhone then, but I used a wonderful retro camera, the Fujifilm X100 series. I believed it would broaden my horizons, shape my worldview, and, most importantly, become a source of inspiration for design (interfaces) and creativity in general. And that’s exactly how it turned out… Here’s that very photo report.

The city’s iconic landmark, Mount Vesuvius, is the only active volcano on mainland Europe and is located just a few kilometers from Naples. It’s absolutely breathtaking! It looms majestically on the horizon, a constant reminder of its historical power and presence, watching over Naples and the surrounding bay. Situated within the Vesuvius National Park, the volcano rises approximately 1,281 meters above sea level, creating a dramatic backdrop that can be seen from nearly every corner of the city.

Castel Nuovo Italy

Naples is a city of contrasts and emotions. Tourists often say that it’s a place where you can fall in love and feel uneasy at the same time. It’s renowned for its vibrant, soulful atmosphere but also for its reputation as one of Italy’s most crime-prone cities. Walking through its narrow streets, you absolutely need to keep an eye on your bag, as thieves on motobikes are known to snatch belongings—a common occurrence that’s best not to invite. Still, these very streets are the heart of the city, where authentic Neapolitan life is in full swing.

Sorrento, Salerno, and Capri

These charming coastal towns are just a short ride from Naples and offer stunning views of the sea. Sorrento is famous for its lemon groves, quaint streets, and delicious limoncello, while Salerno is the gateway to the Amalfi Coast, known for its beautiful Lungomare Trieste promenade and historic old town. Both destinations capture the relaxed, picturesque charm of southern Italy. From here, you can also take a boat or yacht to the famous island of Capri, renowned for its breathtaking Blue Grotto, luxury boutiques, and dramatic cliffs.
